December 10: Every Day should be Human Rights Day
We should celebrate the Universal Declaration’s birthday every year and uphold its values every day. It's a reminder not just of our rights but also a way to check our progress and highlight our failures in our now global village. Now that this document is 60 we need to look ahead so that economic, social and cultural rights are given the same importance as the civil and political rights we are often more familiar with.
Sixty isn't so old

Poverty and Human Rights Violations Are Two Sides of the Same Coin

On December 1Oth, 2008, we will celebrate the 60th year of existence of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The Global Call to Action against Poverty Africa (GCAP Africa) is partnering with the Every Human Has Rights campaign (EHHR) -spearheaded by the Elders including Bishop Desmond Tutu, Aung San Suu Kyi, Mary Robinson, Graçia Machel, Kofi Annan and Nelson Mandela.

More than 10,000 people descended on this ancient Polish town for up to two weeks for supposedly critical talks towards a breakthrough climate change deal at next year’s conference in Copenhagen.
Kenya - Food is a Human Right
Youth and clergy joined together to deliver food to more than 150 hungry families and two homes for children in Mwiki, Kenya. The youth took action to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and remind the Kenyan government and fellow citizens that food security is a basic human right that must be met.
Kenya has seen an increase over the past 10 years in urban food poverty. The government recently announced that the country would not meet most of the Millennium Development Goals, including Goal 1, which calls for significantly decreasing hunger.
